Another MWSCC Wakefield, excited! Today I was running solo as my father and brother were in the UK. Usually dad drives as he doesn't want to be bored in the passenger seat, so I was enjoying towing for once myself! Quick maccas stop at Suttons Forest.
The goal for today was to try slip into the 1.08's again. I had watched back previous laps and made mental notes of things I'd have to try to push for the goal. I'd need to try flat footing a few turns where possible, and maybe stay on 3rd gear limiter for a smidge instead of going to 4th briefly.
Pushing throughout the day it felt like nothing else was possible, this might have made me become sloppy and start throwing the car around in silly ways. As the day progressed, the car developed a weird noise..
Watch the YouTube video on this post further down and you'll hear a humming rotational noise for the entire lap. It's hard to explain, but the faster I went this noise got louder, and if I turned right it was even louder. Turning left, it would completely go away.
It started in the morning quietly but got worse in the afternoon, but with the other flaws of the car & myself on the day I decided to just send it. It seems like something is wrong on the left hand side, like the force of everything moving to the left is causing the noise. I'm concerned for the gearbox, but lets see what else we can find first.
I remembered the CV was still torn from prior to the previous Wakefield day. Looking inside it does look quite dry, and the CV grease was caked around the subframe and motor. I'll have to get the CV sent off and serviced, and hope this was the issue, otherwise we'll need to start checking some other bits.
In the end we had no luck on entering the 1.08s, with a fastest Natsoft time of 1.09.49 for the day. Bit of a shame, is what it is. Still had a fun day with MWSCC as always, Nathan came down with his K swapped CRX, great to have a fellow ED/EF chassis about. Few flicks of the cars together below.
