Merry xmas and happy new year to everyone. I used this break time to attend to a few things on the car, however didn't do heaps as it's quite hot here in Australia atm..
The first thing on the list was to grind down some of the welds on the rear section of the exhaust to tidy them up, I never got around to this when making the exhaust. Also wanted to reweld a few spots that didn't look too great either. Below is before and during photos, to finish it off I chiseled off the small spots from splatter, as when I welded it I was using a gasless mig welder which isn't the best. To finish it off I painted the weld sections with black heat proof exhaust paint.
I've been wanting to remove the sub/amp + 6x9's that sit on the parcel shelf as I always have had to remove them at track, a slight annoyance, especially with taking the terminals off of the amp or battery.
Curious as to how much it weighed, it came in at 19kg. The other night I was curious as to how it sounded with just the front speakers, so I unplugged everything and went for a drive. Can say, 5 minutes up the road I pulled over and plugged everything back in.
Then coincidentally the next day in the car trip down south for my mothers birthday, I found a guy in Melbourne with an EG who was actually at Honhda Nationals this year whom had the same trouble as me and want's that comfort for the random drives around town and the drives to the track.
His solution was to create a 'false floor' which had 4 lids, 1 in the boot and 3 across the back seat. Underneath the boot lid was a built in box for the sub, attached to the lid itself, with one of the front ones with the amp under that. Spoke with him about it online, funnily enough we both had the same thought, pump the tunes on the street, then easily unplug and remove at the track with minimal effort. He just had to remove the lids which held the sound system components, and unplug. The false floor which remains in the car is only about 5kg.
So with this I will follow his design as it's a very smart way to do it. I will start designing this once my roll cage has been fitted which will determine if I still keep rear seats or not, the roll cage should be happening at the end of this month by a local shop!
Thats a fine ass!
