After the fairly successful Marulan day, I had a fix things to fix before the upcoming SMSP GP night. I had been experiencing issues shifting at Marulan, turns out the alloy hardrace bushings were starting to come loose. Quick list of what was done:
The IAT plug had always been snapped as shown below since I did the swap, it's never been an issue but here we are. I'll be replacing the sensor with a spare, and the sensor as well. The white one is the spare replacement, wish it was black but oh well.
Lovely jubbly
I found the return fuel hose to be cracking around the outside section of the hose, another one thats been there forever without issue. As there was a lot of slack, I was able to cut the hose past the cracked section and refit. Easy peasy
Quick alignment, running the recommended starter alignment settings from Honed of 0mm front toe | 1.5mm rear toe in just made the car feel less responsive, not willing to turn in. Decided to revert back to my old setup of 1mm front toe out individually | 0mm rear toe
First SMSP GP (excluding the 2 lapper at the start of the year), overall a great night once I found my confidence with the car again. It felt really dialled in as the night progressed too, happy I made that alignment change. 2 laps were in the .49s but lap aborted to end of session both times.
Mid way through the night we found the top cable ties for the radiator fan had snapped off, only being secured by the bottom 2. Again, they lasted this long.. Myles was on hand and whipped up some temp brackets to kinda hold them in place, by using my spare brake pad shims and bolting them to the threaded bosses at the top of the radiator.
Overall, few teething issues throughout the night. I had a hard vibration under heavy braking, I've had this before at SMSP and I pulled the pads out, checked and cleaned off everything, refitted and it went away. So I decided to do this again, it worked for a few more outings but felt like it started coming back by the last session.
TPS check engine light on session 3 stopped that session early for me, cable tied the loom which resolved it.
Brakes wear after the night was looking quite good, great braking performance with good life span, or I'm not braking hard enough!
First outting with a telemetry dash I'm building, needs some fine tuning on the rpm shift lights but overall great to read the other data from the ECU live!
Looking back at the footage, definitely a lot of room for improvement. One thing I need to improve on, which is somewhat amusing, is my outlap. Traditionally I've always gone out slowly and taken a lap or two to get everything warmed up and ready, I would do it at lower speed and rpm as well. When I went to the MRA family passenger night at the end of last year, I seemed to be surprised how Myles, BYP and BT Motorsport (when I was passenger) would go out hard instantly. Tonight I discussed it with Myles and yeah agreed I need to change the outlap warming up.
I got a new GoPro, accidentally turned off some vibration setting resulting is shakey footage. The 10hz receiver wasn't paired to phone either annoyingly.
