Diagnosing vibration from SMSP

The wobbly P1s

Going off of the previous SMSP - North Circuit track night I mentioned how the car had a constant harsh vibration, maybe 60-80km+, and with SMSP being a higher speed track I felt it a lot.

I'd like to diagnose the issue and fix it immediately. So I loaded the wheels from the Civic into the daily Mazda 6 wagon and headed to my mate Kevin's workshop for a wheel balance.

civic Gotta love the wagon life!

Below is the initial readings from balancing each wheel, the order of the typed out results matches the photo ordering. On the night I felt the vibration came through the steering wheel a lot, so seeing the FR reading suggested maybe it was the culprit? It's so strange though, last time I was out on these wheels/tyres I had no issues. I'm still very sceptical that the balance of the wheels isn't the exact cause, but with the Civic now unregistered for the road, I can only make various changes and hope for the best on the next visit to the track.

Wheels balanced, headed home.

The brakes

Prior to the SMSP event I had upgraded to the DC2R/Mini Cooper setup in the front, along with Intima SS pads for the rear. Once or twice between sessions on the night I did double check everything in the brake department on the front, everything was tight and in place.

Something I did wonder was, the Mini Cooper rotor can rotate back and forth a bit on the wheel studs, I'm guessing it's due to the center bore being bigger and not holding itself in place, as well as the wheel stud holes being bigger. Could this have contributed to the vibration? Surely not as with the wheel tightened against the rotor, that would secure it. Maybe under heavy braking it would cause it to move.. Something I'd like to address regardless in the future.

Anyhow, I checked over everything again for the brakes.

Test fitting the 6ULs

As we're here, should try the 6UL's on all round as I have yet to do so! They look and fit great, then again thats why I bought them. The main winner is the rear fitment, as the P1's had a slightly greater offset of +32 vs +36 on the 6UL's, should be able to lower the rear more once the Honed Development kit is installed.

I reckon they'd look awesome in a dark charcoal colour against the white.

The genuine EF9 and the imposer!

The Fat 5 'around the house' shoes back on with the race wheels tucked out of the weather, tended to polishing up the passenger fender scratches from when the parker light fell out at the previous Wakefield day, much better!
