The Recaro SPG has been great, a huge upgrade over the Bride Low Max I had years ago, however it was time for the next chapter in the seating department, something more suited to motorsports as the car is no longer registered, which meant something with head restraints. I present you with the Racetech - RT4009HR!
This brand of seat seems to be very popular world wide, in very high level GT3/4 racing, V8 Supercars here in Australia and more. They've just released a new style of seat, this 4009 is the older model but what I had already set my mind on.
Found a shop in Sydney which had both, the 4009 was actually the last one in stock within Sydney it seemed. I test fitted in both, I found the new 4100 to be too wide for me and it didn't seem like they had a smaller size, with the employee saying the harness should hold you in, and theres cushions I could buy.
Personally the 4009 fitted way better, but it was nearly double the price. The 4100 did have a roll cage mounting option on the upper part of the seat which seemed a great idea, but yeah honestly the 4009 just seemed better, and as it was actually my birthday I decided to send it!
The old Recaro SPG which will be kept as a passenger seat. It looks a bit rough, but the padding is still great and holds you snug.
Comparison between both seats, the Racetech is huge. Surprisingly the same height, I was concerned of it being higher/wider and the head restraints being too close to the window for my liking, but we should be right. Future full cage + window net might be interesting.. Future me problem.
The side mount brackets on the left are the Bride ones which came with the rails. You can see the comparison to some Sparco brackets there, I got those years ago from somewhere, actually can't remember. I think it might be best to use the Sparco ones as they have more adjustability options.
And fitted! Feels great to sit in inside the car as oppose to the ground. My only concern is the Bride rails as they seem to be getting loser and loser due to the nature of having sliding rails. I'll have to see what level of movement this equates to on the track, but it seems these will be getting replaced sooner rather than later.
