10 Years with the Civic!

Today marks 10 years since I bought the Civic, wowee. It was a Monday night after my first highschool certificate english exam, with the second exam the following morning. I had looked at the Civic on the weekend and put down a deposit to come get it Monday. I still remember the first drive, then picking it up that night and driving home in the pouring rain.

She started off as my daily, 2nd car, with the intention to do some track work in the future. Within a few weeks she already had the EF9 front end, side skirts, rear wing, all moulds painted white, and lowered on some Work Equip 01's with the black sections already painted red, and a nice leather Momo steering wheel (which is now in the EF9).

She drove amazingly, especially once it had a bucket seat in. Who'd think such an old car could be so enjoyable. She saw her first track day with the original D15B4 carby motor, down at Winton Raceway. About 1.5yrs in we started the B18CR swap, it was a huge swap doing the EFI conversion as well, everything I had never done bfore but we got it sorted. I dreamt of driving it with the B18CR, after going for numerous rides in my mates B18CR EF8 which absolutely ripped!

The engine swap was amazing, so much power for this little light weight car. On the street it pumped a lot of cars it shouldn't have, and on the track it was becoming a beast.

Many track days went past, few mods around suspension slowly came in, with the first big one being the BC ER coilovers. Shortly after that, the half cage was made for it. This changed the car a lot, and I decided it was time for a daily, which meant the Civic didn't see the road as much anymore. And in 2021 after buying my first house, I drove her there 1 last time (managed to have a go with an Audi hehe), and I decided to lapse the rego shortly after (also because the car club it was registered with disappeared..).

That's fine, I want it to be a track car, and one day a race car. I was making compromises on various things to keep it 'street legal' so it was nice to do whatever I wanted now.

Winged bucket seat, 6 point harness, full Honed suspension kit installed, various other bits and pieces added since. Attendance at different tracks, more interstate trips to Victoria for Winton Raceway, and now 2 trips to Queensland for Morgan Park. Many more tracks to visit interstate!

We've already started preparing it for it's motorsport phase of door to door racing as of next year 2025 with a full weld in cage booked in early 2025. I'm so excited to see what happens down this path. Many more mods to come, past year or so my interests have grown in the vehicle development side of things, the likes of GT/LMP racing inspiring me to fill out the laundry list of things to research, design, develop and test on the car.

I've also been building a race telemetry dash from scratch, being a Software Engineer myself I've wanted to bring my love for software to the love for cars/racing. To assist improving the car, it's built with onboard datalogging, and I've built a data analysis applicaiton to inspect the data afterwards. I do hope this leads me into a career around motorsport software development.

10 years, thanks mi wee ol girl for the fun and memories over the years, definitely played a huge part in my life, literally been with my for a third of my life. Lets get cracking into some racing aye!

Buying/test fitting the new 6UL's, accompanied by some new AR-1's

After pondering over the CR-S at Winton with how they performed, concerned they might not last a full race, I thought it'll be best to get a fresh set of AR-1 and test them at our upcoming MWSCC Morgan Park trip. Lets try and do 10 hard laps on both tyres and compare, this would be the closest to an actual race.

Now for about 10yrs I've only ever had silver/chrome wheels on the Civic, and I've always dreamt of dark coloured wheels. It's a known thing in the 15" 225 tyre world that they are faster on a 9" rim instead of an 8" rim, as it stretches the tyre sidewall meaning less flex/roll over. 6ULs are such a great looking wheel, and great sizes for the Civic, so it was my quest to get a black set with a 9" front.

I found someone who had a bunch of old new stock, and well here is a new set consisting of 2x 15x9" and 2x 15x8" 6ULs in black!
