Disclaimer, the end result of making the 9" 6ULs fit was to reset my coilovers and set them up correctly, which is in the following post so it has it's own page and is easier to find in the future.
The issue was the 9" didn't actually fit the front properly, with the inner barrel hitting the knuckle. I actually didn't realise this at first, and only when I was trying to start it to load onto the trailer for BYP Racing that the car actually didn't roll (whoops).. Discussing this with BYP, they lent me a pair of 3mm and 8mm slip on spacers to test.
3mm spacer clearance gave barely 1mm clearance (could only just get a piece of paper in there):
8mm spacer clearance gave 5mm clearance:
So the 8mm spacer solves the issue, you could argue something smaller would be ok but having 5mm clearance in mind keeps me happy. And this was the result of that 8mm spacer, the wing sits on the wheel..
This put me into panic drive as the day prior was the tune, I just needed to wheel align with the spacer and I'd be ready to pack the car next Saturday and be on my way, but now we have an undriveable car essentially.
Panic situation present, I thought sod it, time to install these DeepSeBan fenders I bought like 7 years ago from Yahoo Auctions.. These are from the famous DeepSeBan CRX in Japan, theres a set on his car, a set on a CRX in Japan and my set. They fit fairly well but not perfect as the Civic and CRX wings are different, so these will require some modifications to fit. The only section that needs cutting is the front as it's too long.
Initial fitment
Trimming down the front section
I bought these new aftermarket reproduction wings like 8 years ago with the intent of doing some custom wings but by metal work, essentially extending out the OEM shape for the bigger wheel. I guess they are now being used for these instead!
Mocked up where they'd sit, and marked where to cut the underneath for extra tyre clearance.
Marked, and cut!
And this is where we stopped to be honest. No photos to show, but I fitted the black wing on and was talking myself up to mark out the holes for the rivnuts, but I just felt wrong about rushing it this much. I'd have to do the other side, and then the prep and paint throughout the week. Honestly it didn't feel how I usually do things and knew something would go wrong.
A few comments from people said just chuck in some more camber, I decided to try this on the opposite side, about -4.5 camber and tried lifting up the wing some more by hand on the arch, and it seemed to be ok? Didn't scrub back and forth, but when I turned the wheel to put it on the grass for the 10yr photos, it was on the wing.
Solution? I'll need to revisit the coilover setup to refit the 3rd collar to raise it, and that's gonna be some work..
Made for some cool photos at least
